It’s officially summer time. If you haven’t come to grips with this yet… it’s summer time. For the longest while, I’ve been borrowing deodorant from everyone in the home, and every is pissed. I totally understand it! However, push had now come to shove and the pits were getting a bit angry. Enter my improved deodorant recipe!
I’ve made my deodorant before to mixed results: sometimes it’s effective but itchy; other times it melts like crazy and leave me smelling like a hippopotamus. I’ve never got the formula just right. The last batch that I made back in February 2017 left me with itchy armpits AND smelling like a zoo. This prompted me to scour the internet to find a recipe that I could run with.
The recipe below is based off of Caitlin Weeks of the Grass Fed Girl blog over here. I changed the measurements slightly to work for me, but overall, here’s my take on it (mind you, it’s only been one day of use lol!):
- It is the PERFECT consistency
- NO residue/transfer onto my clothing INCLUDING dark clothing
- There is a bit of a smell
- Also, there is a bit of perspiration
Like I said, I’ve been using this deodorant for all of 1 day, so the detox effects are supposed to be present. However, I’ll check back in with you in two weeks and let you know whether or not this recipe is a hit or a miss and what I’ll be doing to alter it for next time.
All-Natural DIY Deodorant
This effective deodorant recipe is a great substitute for commercial deodorants. What I enjoy most about this DIY is the fact that the beeswax makes the deodorant firm enough to keep through the warm summer month's as well as inside an old deodorant container which twists up.
Measure out the shea butter, coconut oil, and beeswax.
Melt down the shea butter, coconut oil, and beeswax together either over a double boiler on the stove or in the microwave.
Once the three ingredients are thoroughly melted together, add in the arrowroot powder, ensuring that it is thoroughly mixed together; If using a double boiler, turn the heat onto low at this point
Once the arrowroot powder has been mixed into the melted ingredients, add in the diatomaceous earth and baking soda.
Once the diatomaceous earth has been mixed into the melted ingredients, add in the Vitamin E oil, tea tree oil and lavendar essential oil;
Now that you have mixed in all the ingredients, transfer them to old deodorant containers and let rest for about 6 hours
